Work Hard, Get Nowhere?

Are You in the Right Vehicle?

Working Hard in the Wrong Way

ID-10075966Most of us were raised to work hard, to get good grades, to get a good job, to make good money, and we’d be happy. At this point, we are also realizing that that doesn’t seem to be the case. We’ve busted our asses in school, in our job, working overtime, only to be rewarded with a paycheck that’s a lot smaller than what we know we truly deserve, and it makes us furious.

The first step in really understanding how to make a change is understanding clearly where you are and clearly where you want to go. Many of us keep telling ourselves, “I’m getting nowhere” , but have a difficult time answering the question “where do I want to go?”. So let’s assume you want to get to where you’re financially free and have enough time and money to do what you really want to do. And you’re currently working an hourly wage job and you’re busting your ass working tons of hours and feel like you’re stuck. Whether you’ve got experience, a degree, or any “credentials” backing you – that doesn’t matter. What matters is that you have a clear compelling vision of what you really want for your life. If you could do anything with your life, what would it be? How would you really enjoy spending your time? Then choose a vehicle that is going to get you there.

What do you mean by ‘Vehicle’?

The “job” vehicle is just a vehicle just like you can choose a specific mode of transportation to get you from A to B. There are tons of methods of transportation, some faster and more efficient than others. If you want to get to financial freedom and you’re working at starbucks, that’s like trying to take a bicycle from Michigan to Hawaii, you’re not going to get there. But you say, John, I’m not qualified to do anything else! – is that true? Who said? Sure, you may not be “qualified” to get hired by a better “employer”, but is that really what you want anyway? You’re going to work hard at whatever you do, why not work hard at something that is going to give you leverage? Something that is going to allow you to exponentially grow your income? Take Network Marketing for example, someone can start with next to nothing, there are no requirements, nobody can tell you you can’t do it. You are in charge of your own destiny. It is the only business model I am aware of that you can start from nothing and grow a multiple million dollar income in less than 10 years. That is a vehicle that can get you from zero to financial freedom in a relatively short time period.

But that’s just one example. My point is that if you want to actually get somewhere, you have to know where it is that you want to get to, and then choose the best vehicle that is going to get you there the quickest and most efficient way possible. But that end goal has to be specific. Many people walk around shooting for happiness and success, but they have no definition for it. It’s like going to a travel agent and asking them to book you a trip to “someplace nice” – they just can’t do it. But once you get specific and say, I want to go to Hawaii, then they can book you a flight – if you want to go up the street to a hotel, they can rent you a car. Decide where you specifically want to go in life, your ideal income level, how you’re spending your time, who you’re serving, and then choose a vehicle to get there.

You’re going to work hard anyway, why not choose a vehicle that supports accelerated growth?
